Rosacea calgary treatment

Rosacea Treatments in Calgary

Blushing is something we do when we feel embarrassed or angry…but don’t let a red face be the cause of your embarrassment or anger! Don’t get mad! Get even!

While chronic redness of the skin can result from excessive sun exposure, in most cases it is caused by Rosacea, a chronic skin condition that causes redness, pimples, broken blood vessels and thickening of the skin. Rosacea typically affects only the skin on the nose, cheeks and forehead, but redness may also be present on the neck, chest and elsewhere.

The cause of Rosacea is unknown, but people most likely to develop symptoms have a family history of the condition. It is particularly common among those with a Celtic or Scandinavian heritage but can affect darker skin types as well. Women are more likely to develop the condition than men, however men who do develop Rosacea often have more severe symptoms. While Rosacea can affect young adults, it most often develops in people between the ages of 30 and 50.

With four subtypes of Rosacea, symptoms may come and go with flareups, or the condition may be progressive and get worse with age. Symptoms include flushing and redness, small visible blood vessels, swollen, dry, rough, bumpy, scaly skin, raised patches of skin, thickening of skin, large pores, and small pimples. If you think you have acne, it may be Rosacea. Rosacea sufferers truly do have sensitive skin and may also experience a burning and stinging sensation. Symptoms tend to worsen when exposed to heat or cold or when alcohol or certain foods are consumed.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for Rosacea. It will never go away on it’s own, but treatments exist that can keep symptoms under control and prevent the condition of the skin from getting worse:

Phototherapy: This treatment is our most popular option for the treatment of Rosacea. Performed with our medical-grade IPL, known as BBL, a specific wavelength targets reds to gradually even out flushing and improve other symptoms of Rosacea. It also provides quick relief from the burning sensation Rosacea causes some to suffer from. Our BBL can even target the tiny broken blood vessels that may be too small to be seen by a laser. A series of 3 to 5 treatments performed four weeks apart with occasional maintenance can do much to improve all symptoms of Rosacea and prevent them from getting worse. As a bonus, this treatment will also improve brown pigment. Learn more >>

Laser Vein Therapy: In the hands of a skilled operator, our Fotona ND Yag is the ideal option to precisely target small broken blood vessels that are common around the nose and may be present on the entire face in advanced cases of Rosacea. A narrow beam of light shuts down the vessels and they disappear instantly. Learn more >>

Renew 30 Chemical Peel: This 30% Lactic Acid peel is specifically designed for Rosacea and sensitive skin with the added benefit of exfoliating dead skin cells and decreasing visible signs of aging. Learn more >>

ZO’s Rozatrol: This treatment serum for red, sensitized skin has ZO-RRS2™, a complex that reduces excess surface oil to normalize skin and exfoliate to prevent signs of premature aging. It also relieves symptoms associated with mild to moderate Rosacea. It is a very popular product and works well when used daily. Learn more >>
