There are two lasers primarily used for skin resurfacing treatments. One is called an Erbium Yag and the other is known as C02. They are both incredibly versatile and can deliver a variety of resurfacing treatments customized to address a wide range of textural concerns. Which laser is best suited depends on the degree and type of textural irregularity we are targeting, a person’s skintype, whether or not they can accommodate downtime, and their ability to stay out of the sun afterwards.
The first thing we look at is a person’s skintype. By skintype I don’t mean oily, dry or combination. In the laser world, a person’s skintype is determined based on their ethnicity. People with darker skintypes have too much natural pigment in their skin for some treatments to be delivered safely without a high risk of complications. The next thing we look at is the concern we want to correct. Deep lip lines or acne scars will clearly require a more aggressive treatment than fine lines and wrinkles will. Another deciding factor is the person’s tolerance for downtime, and by this I don’t mean stay-in-bed downtime, but more like stay-at-home-and-paint-your-livingroom downtime.
3 Ways to restore smooth skin:
1) Micro-laser Peel:
As we age a layer of dead skin cells develops on our skin. This layer of cells is known as the stratum corneum and it plays an important role in protecting us from the sun. As we age and the layer thickens, however, it makes us look dry and dull. Getting rid of those dead cells restores our skin’s radiance. The laser can peel off a little or peel off a lot. It removes sun damage, reduces surface imperfections, minimizes fine lines and pores and polishes the skin to a smoother finish. Even if you don’t have any textural irregularities, chances are you will love the benefits of a micro-laser peel.
2) Deep Fractionated Resurfacing:
This treatment physically pokes thousands of fractionated columns of injury into your skin, each about the thickness of a human hair. For fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars this treatment penetrates through the epidermis and into the dermis to slough off the outer layers of skin. At the same time the injury to the dermis triggers a healing response which stimulates collagen remodeling. Surface imperfections are softened and over time the skin tightens.
3) Full-Field Resurfacing:
If you think of your skin as a potato, deep fractionated is like poking holes through the skin of the potato. Full field, on the other hand, peels the skin off the potato. In the hands of a skilled technician, the laser carefully peels off one thin layer at a time, allowing us to target areas of greatest concern such as lip lines, deep wrinkles and scars or raised imperfections.
Skinpossible’s laser skin resurfacing treat-ments range from minimally invasive treatments that allow you to carry on with your normal activities soon afterwards, to ablative treatments that require you to keep salve on your skin for a few days and hide out at home. All will require you to avoid sun exposure for at least a few weeks until the stratum corneum recovers. Thus, with summer approaching, if you are bothered by wrinkles, deep lines or acne scars, now is a great time to take action.
